1.2 WEBINAR CONTENT:
In addition to Inauguration and Key note address, webinar was delivered by our resource person, Smt. Sharmila Madam on the topic,” Nature Conservation through MIYAWAKI afforestation”. The webinar deals with the concept of afforestation through Miyawaki a technique pioneered by Japanese Botanist Akira Miyawaki, that helps to build dense, native forest in a short time which has revolutionized the concept of urban afforestation by turning backyards in to miniforests.
This method includes planting trees as close as possible in the same area which is not only saves space, but ensure that the planted tree saplings can support each other. The saplings then become self sustainable after the first three years. The approach also ensures that plant growth is ten times faster and the resulting plantation is thirty times denser than usual. So by this webinar, it is found to be know that, Miyawaki method helps to create a forest in just twenty to thirty years ,while conventional methods need two hundred to three hundred years.
Also, details of other methods were also delivered by our resource person including,
· Pathayora Vanavalkkaranam
· Nakshathra Vanam
· Butterfly garden
· Bamboo forest
This webinar is fruitful as it deals with many methods which focus on afforestation and for nature conservation. Vote of thanks was done by Krishna A V(Nature Club Student Coordinator).
